Cultivating a Morning Ritual

The Why behind a Morning Ritual

I believe the most profound first step in changing your life, your health and your overall wellbeing, lies within how you spend your mornings.

It wasn’t until I cultivated a morning ritual that I began to see a shift begin, not only outside me, but internally. Waking up early, having warm lemon water and drinking a homemade tea is more than a physical practice and gift to our bodies, it is a transformational act for our mind.

When we carve out time in the beginning of our day to sit with our thoughts, meditate, pray, breathe, journal or simply sit and have a warm cup of tea or coffee, we gift ourselves with the ability to determine how our day will go before it determines it for us. Oftentimes, the way we perceive and interact with our everyday responsibilities, relationships & obligations is not actually dependent upon the quality or situation of the things themselves, but dependent upon how we feel internally when we encounter them.

Therefore it is possible to be the curator of your own experience and shift the way you show up to work, to class, to family, friends, loved ones and responsibilities. It is possible to wake up feeling excited, rejuvenated, balanced and aligned, if you simply take the time to allow yourself to be.

Curating the Morning that Works for You

Everyone is different and certain aspects of my routine will not be desirable, nor work the same for the next person over. Crafting a morning routine is about implementing practices, habits & rituals that resonate, inspire, motivate or draw you back to keep repeating them. For me, I have always loved to write. I find it therapeutic, as it clears my mind and at the same time inspires me. That is why my morning always begins with reading a devotional and journaling. For others, it might be meditation, stretching, or the simple act of making your morning beverage of choice.

I would suggest finding a few practices that you are drawn to and begin your mornings there. Read a few pages of a book, write out your goals for the day, drink a glass of warm lemon water on an empty stomach, whatever it may be, start implementing time for yourself in the morning and watch as your life shifts both internally & externally.
