Eating Right For Your Blood Type

As some one invested in the world of health and wellness, I have had my share of participating in many of the different “diets” that are promoted by wellness gurus, nutritionists, doctors and the latest trends being promoted as the healthiest. However, what I have found to be the most true of anything I have ever followed, is the blood type diet. The concept of this book and study by Peter J. D’amo is that blood types have evolved through the evolution of man and therefore what some people tolerate well and thrive on, others do not.

For two years, I followed a plant based vegan diet, which ultimately led to many of the issues I struggled with later on. The issue was that I am an 0 negative blood type and this specific blood type thrives on a high protein, low carbohydrate structure. When eating vegan, this structure of eating is very difficult to do and what I didn’t realize at the time, was many of the foods and food groups I was consuming were actually working against my very blood type. Foods like corn, wheat, grains, beans and certain cruciferous vegetables that had been making up the basis of my diet, were the very things causing irritation and inflammation for me.

It wasn’t until after seeing a holistic doctor in Hawaii to address my gut and thyroid issues that I was first introduced to the concept of eating for my blood type. It wasn’t too long after that I decided what I was eating was no longer working for me and it was time to reintroduce high quality animal products back into my diet. Through time, discipline and consistency, my body found its balance once again, but I believe following a way of eating that worked for me and not against me was the missing piece.

As an 0 negative blood type, I now base my meals around high quality sources of protein, certain dairy coming from mostly goat and sheep, leafy greens, vegetables & fruit. I limit grains, even gluten free ones, as I have found I feel best doing this!

To anyone looking to figure out gaps in their health, or as to why you might not be feeling your best despite following a “clean” diet, I would highly suggesting reading and looking into the blood type diet and seeing if this is something that might be beneficial to you as well.
